Patrick and I did it last week. Not it, you naughty people, but it - the thing that makes us officially middle-aged, or rapidly approaching it. We bought a minivan. It isn't a Venture, as the title of this post suggests, but a Grand Caravan. That's right - the granddaddy of all minivans. It's a funny feeling to look in the rear view mirror and think that in just a few short months, there will be another car seat back there! Jack seems to like being up high, though, and able to look out the windows. To think that we went down the whole spectrum from a Jeep Wrangler to a minivan since we've lived in Pennsylvania leaves us a little reminiscent of our more care-free days....but just a little.
I'm new to the blogging thing, and since I've always loved writing, I thought it might challenge me to fill a blank page with something interesting. I'm sure the minivan story had you on the edge of your seats, didn't it? That's the new venture I was referring to - actually organizing my thoughts while simultaneously keeping far away friends abreast of news and the goings on of our growing family. They say we only use 10% of our brains (actually, the Today show just had a "fact or fiction" segment this morning to talk about whether this, and other medical urban legends, is true or not, but I think I missed the verdict). If it's true, I think new moms and pregnant women only use a mere 3%. That's what it feels like, anyway. And since I'm a new mom AND a pregnant woman, I fear I'm closer to 1.5%. While I can recite the entire dialogue of "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh", I rarely remember where my wallet is or to get all of the things on the list at the grocery store. Yeah - I even have the list. Somehow, I still miss something...usually because Jack's just starting to reach meltdown stage by the time I get through the frozen foods and I'm anxious to head to the checkout. But writing on a quasi-regular basis might help...not with the groceries, but with creative thinking and organizing my thoughts. That's what I'm hoping, anyway. We'll see how it goes...

Thanks for your comment! Congratulations on your new little one (the coming child, not the van), and welcome to the blogosphere. Oh, and btw, complete myth that we only use 10% of our brains.
Best wishes in the New Year!
