Wine time

I've never been a big drinker. I didn't have my first drink until I was 21. It was a mudslide, bought for me by my friend, Kerry. Since then, I've come to find that I enjoy a sweet drink here and there (amaretto sours are nice), I love a gin and tonic on a warm summer evening (extra limes, please), I like a nice, hoppy beer (but you can keep the Budweisers or Coors Lights), and I have an affinity for wine.

I'm no connoisseur - far from it. I know what I like and I know what I don't like, and I have no idea about earthy undertones or slightly woody cask flavors. I love Cabernet Sauvignon, but I can't stand Merlot. I like sweet whites like Chardonnay and Riesling, but not Pinot Grigio so much.

But more than anything, I just like sitting down with my husband after our boys are in bed and having a glass of wine together. Or two.

In the summer, we'll sit out on the deck, play some music and light some candles and just marvel at how wonderful it is to be together.
We shared some Shiraz on Friday night (inside) and it reminded me how much I love sharing that time with him.

How about you? Are you a wine lover? Is it a passion or just a casual affinity like mine? Which vino is your favorite?
(Oh, and what do you think of the new layout?)

New Layout: love it!
Wine: hate it!

Seriously, I can't stand the taste of alcohol. I've tried to like it. I've tried all different types, flavors, and varieties, but I can't get past that horribly bitter taste.

The only thing I can stomach is Bailey's mixed in coffee. In fact, that's what I had on my 21st birthday. :)

Oh Eileen, you know you are killing me! I am not a huge drinker either but I do love wine! Chardonnay and other semi-sweet white wines are my favorite. I only like reds that are sweet. My parents live near the Finger Lakes up in NY, where there are lots of local wineries. When we buy wine, we always get the ones from up there. Bully Hill Seasons and Hazzlit's Red Cat are two of my faves. I also enjoy a good margarita from time to time.

Hopefully there will be a few warm nights in September so I can do the porch and wine thing!

Eileen, I like the new layout of your blog...it looks great!

Sonny and I have tried to understand a bit more about wine this past year. We even went to a wine tasting last February...which was very fun...and interesting. Remind me to eat before I go to wine tasting next time. :)

We tend to like sweeter wines...I just asked Sonny what his favorite kind of wine is so I could write in in this comment and he replied, "Beer"...ha!

I love the new layout, cute!
I am not a big drinker. I can drink those fruity daiquiris, but that's it. I have never got used to that taste. I remember my parents used to, and maybe still do, have some Manchevitz (sp?) wine once an a while, and I tried it and it burned. LOL!
I think its so cute how you and Patrick sit outside at night with your wine, so cute.
My dad thinks I need some wine in my diet, he said it will help relax me. Any suggestions for me to try? Oh the supermarkets down here, have wine and alcohol in them. So convenient.
